Holiday Trees of Hope and Support

A tradition that began in 2004 at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, the Holiday Tree of Hope and Support is an exhibit that empowers students to share their concerns about sexual assault by designing teal ribbons with message of awareness, risk reduction, bystander intervention, disclosure, and hope for a campus free of sexual violence and support for victims and survivors of sexual assault. The exhibit has enabled RESPECT peer educators to interact with students through discussion about the myths and realities of sexual assault. In its first year, 96 ornaments were hung on a single tree. As the project continued to grow, 259 ornaments hung on two trees in 2005. During its most current year, five trees were located about campus with over 600 ribbons hung on them. The trees are on display throughout campus from mid-November to early December.
