RESPECT is a group of men and women who provide educational presentations and interactive events on sexual assault issues through peer health education. They are students helping other students to understand the issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, and its risk reduction and prevention. These programs are developed specifically for the target audience—college students and perspective college students.
The social-ecological model is the framework used for RESPECT programs with emphasis on changing rape culture. Bystander intervention is infused throughout. RESPECT uses a variety of methods to education about sexual violence and its prevention. Social-norming media campaigns, outreach, awareness events, classroom and group presentations, and other strategies are used to convey consistent messages and education regarding sexual violence prevention.
