While the Professor is Away

Welcome Faculty to the “While the Professor is Away’ Program

Are you going to miss one or more of your classes this semester and are considering canceling class? Please don’t! The Campus Sexual and Relationship Violence Center (SRVC) has a group of peer educators that want to enlighten your class for the day. RESPECT, Rape Education Services by Peers Encouraging Conscious Thought, is a SRVC program comprised of a group of students that provide interactive presentations for other students regarding many matters regarding sexual violence.

Do you think the topic of sexual assault is not relevant to your class? Since 1 in 4 college women and 1 in 16 college men become victims of sexual assault, this topic is relevant to everyone in one way or another. While a chapter of sexual assault may not be included in the course’s textbook, please do not deny your students the important life lessons that our presentation can offer. Sexual assault is a serious problem on every college campus and we need your help to address this alarming issue.

RESPECT presentations are geared toward both men and women and feature extensive class discussion. A social-ecological model serves as the framework with emphasis on rape culture, bystander intervention, dispelling rape myths, and attitudinal and behavior change. All peer educators complete training prior to ever presenting.

To schedule a presentation with RESPECT, email the following information to respect@uark.edu

  • Date of Presentation Request
  • Time of Presentation
  • Location of Class
  • Course Title
  • Number of Students in Your Class
  • Contact Phone Number

Every effort will be made to accommodate your request. Please be advised that this program is intended for planned absences in which advance request can be made. We hope to hear from you and appreciate your help with reaching out to University of Arkansas students on a very important issue.
